Investigators believe, however, that the 73-year-old Alcala is responsible for many more deaths than even the eight he has been charged with so far.
In fact, it is estimated that the serial killer may be responsible for up to 130 murders.
When he appeared as a contestant on the show, he was a convicted rapist in the middle of his killing spree.
Unfortunately, Alcala had vanished, fleeing to New York City, where he lived for four years and attended film school until the law caught up with him on the Shapiro case.
Shapiro’s family had relocated to Mexico by then, and didn’t want Tali to testify in the trial, so Alcala was charged with only assault and was out on parole after 34 months.
It’s suspected that he may have killed many more people than he’s been accused of.
